Apps for smart fridges
A fridge connects to an app only if the model has Wi-Fi. Then each maker uses its own: SmartThings for Samsung, LG ThinQ for LG, Home Connect for Bosch and Siemens, and hOn for Haier. From the phone you can change the temperature, get a notice when the door is left open and, on models with a camera, see what is inside.
How we picked: only the app each fridge maker names on its own support pages, with the store seller checked. Features come from the maker’s description of its connected fridges, and they differ by model, so check that your model has Wi-Fi and the maker’s app mark. We do not quote prices.
Samsung fridge: SmartThings
Samsung connects its Wi-Fi fridges to SmartThings. Samsung support says the app sets the temperature of the fridge, the freezer and FlexZone and changes settings such as ice making, the door alarm and temperature units. Family Hub models add View Inside: the camera takes photos when the doors close, so you can check the shelves from the shop.
LG fridge: LG ThinQ
LG fridges with ThinQ connect to LG ThinQ. LG says you can check and adjust the fridge and freezer temperature, get a notification if the door is left open, and use Smart Diagnosis when something goes wrong.
Bosch, Siemens and Haier
Home Connect runs connected fridges by Bosch and Siemens. Bosch says it sends a push notification when the door is not closed properly or the temperature changes significantly, lets you start SuperCooling or SuperFreezing on the way home, and on models with interior cameras sends a photo each time the door closes; it needs Wi-Fi. hOn runs Haier fridges that carry the hOn mark, and Haier says it sets the temperature of each compartment from anywhere.
