Apps for washing machines
A smart washing machine is run from its maker’s app: LG ThinQ for LG, SmartThings for Samsung, HomeWhiz for Beko, Home Connect for Bosch and Siemens, Electrolux for Electrolux and hOn for Candy, Hoover and Haier. They start and watch a cycle from the phone and tell you when it is done. The machine itself must support Wi-Fi or Bluetooth; an ordinary washer cannot be added. Every app here except hOn has a Ukrainian interface.
How we picked: only the app each washing machine maker publishes, from its App Store and Google Play listing and the maker’s own support pages. Universal “remote” apps from other sellers are left out; the makers’ own setup guides all point to their own app.
LG and Samsung washing machines
LG ThinQ connects LG appliances, washers included, over Wi-Fi: you control the machine from anywhere, check its state with Smart Diagnosis, book a service visit, track energy use and read the manual in the app. SmartThings is Samsung’s app: add the washing machine under Devices, and the phone tells you when the cycle is done, when Smart Control changes or when an error shows up. The same app also runs Samsung TVs and other smart devices.
Beko: HomeWhiz
Beko washing machines with the remote control function connect to HomeWhiz from Arcelik. Beko’s manual describes the setup: tap Appliances and Add appliance in the app, then switch the machine into HomeWhiz setup mode with the buttons named in its manual. HomeWhiz controls and monitors the appliance, downloads extra programmes to it, has a wizard that suggests the right programme and saves favourites.
Bosch, Siemens, Electrolux and Candy
Home Connect is the official app for BSH appliances, including Bosch, Siemens, NEFF and Gaggenau: start and stop a programme, pick quick or silent options, get a notification when it finishes, download software updates and start the washing machine by voice through Amazon Alexa or Google Home. Electrolux controls and monitors connected Electrolux appliances, runs routines on a schedule, gives care tips and maintenance reminders and works with Google Assistant and Alexa. hOn serves Candy, Hoover and Haier appliances: it starts a washing programme, has a stain guide, scans the care symbols on a clothes label and runs self-test programmes; its interface is not in Ukrainian.
The washer will not connect
LG and Samsung both say the connection needs a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, so check that your router offers one if the app does not find the machine. Samsung also asks that the phone and the washer are on the same router during setup. Other smart home apps live in our guides to air conditioner apps and robot vacuum apps.
