Best translator apps in 2026

For most people Google Translate is the default: it covers up to 249 languages, works offline and translates text through the camera. DeepL is the pick for longer text, documents and a formal or informal tone. Apple Translate is built into the iPhone and handles live two-way conversations. Reverso Context shows how a word is used in real sentences, which helps when you are learning a language.

How we picked: a translator has to handle text, voice and the camera, and say plainly what works offline or on a paid plan. We checked each app’s own App Store description for those features and for a Ukrainian interface in the UA App Store.

For travel: camera, offline and conversations

Google Translate translates with no internet connection, reads signs and menus through the camera, translates bilingual conversations on the fly and even transcribes someone speaking in near real time. Apple Translate has Auto Translate for conversations, so it detects when each person starts and stops speaking without tapping the microphone, and its camera view translates the text around you.

For longer text and documents

DeepL starts translating as you type, translates text from files, offers alternative translations for single words and reads the result aloud. A paid plan adds a glossary for your own terms and a choice of formal or informal tone, and DeepL Write suggests clearer wording.

For learning a language

Reverso Context shows each word or expression inside real sentences from documents, subtitles and product descriptions, so you see exactly how it is used, and translates selected text in Safari and other apps. Apple Translate lets you tap a word for its dictionary definition, and both Google Translate and DeepL save phrases you want to keep.

Ukrainian in the interface

Google Translate, DeepL, Apple Translate and Reverso Context list Ukrainian among their interface languages in the UA App Store. Microsoft Translator does not, though it still translates to and from Ukrainian among its 100+ languages.

Which one to choose

Pick Google Translate as the all-rounder and for offline travel. Pick DeepL for emails, documents and natural wording. On iPhone, Apple Translate is already there for conversations. Head to head: Google Translate vs DeepL.
