How to share your location with family safely
Your teenager is late and not answering. Your parent drove to the city alone for the first time. Location sharing can turn a worried hour into a quick glance, if everyone agreed to it and knows exactly who can see them.
A setup routine, then family locator apps. Location sharing should be open and agreed by everyone in the circle. Tracking an adult without their knowledge is a serious privacy breach and may be illegal. If you think someone is tracking you, check your sharing settings and ask for help from a trusted person or a support service.

Share for a trip, not forever
For a night out, a hike or a long drive, share for a set time and let it switch off. For trips with friends, see trip sharing apps and how to navigate offline on a hike.
Check who can see you
Every few months, open your phone’s location settings and each app, and remove people or devices you no longer share with. If a phone goes missing, compare find my phone apps.
