How to get better answers from an AI assistant
“Write me an email” gets you something bland. “Write a short, friendly email to my landlord asking to fix the heating before Friday, in three sentences” gets you something you can send. The assistant did not get smarter. You told it what you needed.
How to write a good request, how to check the answer, then AI assistant apps. Assistants can sound sure and still be wrong. Check facts, numbers and quotes against a reliable source, and do not paste in anything you would not want stored on someone else’s server.
Give it the brief
Say who the answer is for, what you will do with it and any limits: length, tone, deadline. If you already have a draft, paste it in and say what to change. Compare assistants in AI assistant apps.
Iterate, do not restart
If the answer is close, tell it what to fix: shorter, warmer, fewer jargon words. Follow-up requests in the same chat keep the context you already gave.
Know how it works
Assistants predict likely text, which is why they can invent a source that does not exist. See how to understand how AI works. For pictures, the rules differ; see how to write a prompt for an AI image generator.
Keep private things private
Leave out passwords, card numbers, health records and other people’s personal data. Check the app’s settings for whether chats are stored or used for training. Writing in other apps? See how to use an AI keyboard.
