An AI assistant app answers questions, writes and edits text, reads photos and documents and talks with you by voice. ChatGPT is free to download, syncs your chats across devices, generates images and has a real time voice mode. Gemini from Google can look through your camera or shared screen in Gemini Live, works with your documents and spreadsheets and connects to NotebookLM. Claude from Anthropic is built for writing, coding and research, searches the web with citations and can connect to Gmail, Google Drive and Calendar. ChatGPT: images, voice and photos
ChatGPT from OpenAI is free to download and syncs your history across devices. It creates original images from a description or changes existing ones, holds a real time spoken conversation in Advanced Voice Mode, for example to practise a language, and reads photos, so it can transcribe a handwritten recipe or tell you about a landmark. It also helps plan trips, draft replies and explain topics simply.
Gemini: camera, screen and your files
Gemini from Google lets you talk things through in Gemini Live while sharing your camera or screen, so it can discuss exactly what you see. You can upload documents, spreadsheets, photos and videos for answers and summaries, research with NotebookLM grounded in your own sources, turn class notes into practice tests, and generate and edit images. Some features need a paid Google AI plan.
Claude: writing, code and research
Claude from Anthropic helps turn rough ideas into polished posts, emails and reports, reviews and debugs code in Python, JavaScript and other languages, and searches the web with citations. You can connect Google Drive, Gmail and Calendar, upload photos, PDFs and screenshots for analysis, and talk to it by voice in several languages.
