AI image generator apps
Describe what you want to see and the app draws it. Adobe Firefly creates images and video from text. ChatGPT and Gemini generate and edit pictures inside a conversation. Ideogram is strong when the image needs text, and Leonardo.Ai lets you pick the model for the job.
How we chose: apps that generate images from text, sold by their own developer or by a seller listed as a trader on the App Store, with features taken from each app’s store description. No prices, download counts or ratings.
Adobe Firefly: images and video from text
Adobe Firefly creates high resolution images from a short prompt, turns text into video, adds animations and transitions and removes backgrounds from photos. Besides Adobe’s own models trained on licensed content, it offers partner models including Google, OpenAI, Luma and Runway.
ChatGPT and Gemini: draw inside a conversation
If an assistant is already on your phone, you may not need a separate app. ChatGPT creates images from a description and changes existing ones with a few words, and the app itself is free. Google Gemini generates and edits photos with camera and lighting controls, blends several images into mockups and designs posters with sharp text. For assistants in general, see AI assistant apps.
Ideogram and Leonardo.Ai: for design and many models
Ideogram stands out for stylised text inside the image, which suits posters, ads and logos. It has an editor with generative fill, background removal and variations from a single photo, and you can start free with weekly credits. We could not confirm an Android version. Leonardo.Ai brings several image and video models together, including its own and Google’s Nano Banana, with ready templates, editing by description and an upscaler.
Generate or draw it yourself
A generator gives a finished picture in seconds but little control over every line. To draw yourself, see drawing apps, and to repair or animate an old photo, apps to restore old photos.
