ADB Wi-Fi 2.0 wireless debugging

Short answer: ADB Wi-Fi 2.0 is Google’s rework of wireless debugging across the adb server, the adbd daemon on the device and Android Studio. Connections are meant to survive network changes, the device switches wireless debugging off on untrusted networks, and devices show up in Device Manager for pairing. To use it you need Android 17 on the device, Android SDK Platform-Tools 37.0.0 and Android Studio Quail 3 or later. Google reports auto-connection success up 32% and connection speed up 66% for 90% of connections.

Setting it up

It works on phones, tablets, Wear OS and TV. Update to Android 17, Platform-Tools 37.0.0 and Android Studio Quail 3 or later. Connect the workstation and the device to the same Wi-Fi network. On the device, open Developer Options and turn on Wireless debugging. In Android Studio’s Device Manager, click the pair over Wi-Fi icon, then scan the QR code with the device or enter the pairing code.
