Speaker cleaner apps to eject water

These apps play a tone at a set frequency so the speaker membrane vibrates water or dust out. Sonic gives precise frequency control from 0 Hz to 25 kHz with a dedicated cleaning session. Clean Tune cleans with one button. Water Eject by AppLiks has automatic and manual modes plus a stereo test, and Clean Wave adds a noise meter.

How we picked: the app has to play a speaker-cleaning tone, not only test sound. We checked each developer’s own App Store description. All four are for iPhone, with full features on a subscription.

How to get water out of an iPhone speaker

The developers all give the same advice: place the phone face down, turn the volume to the max, disconnect headphones and start the cleaning. The low tone shakes the membrane and the water leaves through the speaker grille. If the sound has not come back after a few sessions, take the phone to a repair service.

Precise frequency by hand

Sonic calls itself the original app for cleaning water from iPhone speakers. Swipe up or down anywhere to move the tone from 0 Hz to ultrasonic 25 kHz, slowly for fine steps. It has a dedicated cleaning session, Apple Watch control, background play and output to Bluetooth and AirPlay speakers. Unlimited cleaning sessions are on the subscription.

One button

Clean Tune plays sounds at strictly defined frequencies and cleans the speaker of water with a single button, no settings. It also measures the noise level, which needs microphone access.

Water and dust

Water Eject by AppLiks tests speakers from 0 to 25 kHz and, the developer says, helps clear dust and water when the sound has grown fainter. It has automatic and manual modes and a stereo test of both speakers.

Speaker test and noise meter

Clean Wave plays 0 Hz to 22 kHz automatically or by hand, with sine, triangle, square or sawtooth waves. It also has a speaker test and a noise meter.

Which one to pick

Want to tap once and wait, take Clean Tune. Need a precise frequency and Watch control, Sonic. Sound faded from dust rather than water, Water Eject. Want to test the speaker too, Clean Wave. If your phone is slow from a full storage, see photo cleaner apps.

Frequently asked questions

How do I eject water from my phone speaker with sound?

Open a speaker-cleaning app such as Clean Tune or Sonic, place the phone face down and set the volume to the max. The tone shakes the membrane and pushes the water out.

Are water eject apps free?

They are free to download, but full features, such as unlimited cleaning sessions in Sonic, need a subscription.

What if the sound does not come back?

Run the cleaning a few more times. If the speaker still sounds muffled or quiet, take the phone to a repair service, since water may have damaged parts.
