How to print from your phone
The boarding pass is in your email, the form is a PDF, the printer sits in the corner. You do not need a computer in between. Modern phones can print directly, and when they cannot, the printer’s own app usually can.
A step-by-step routine, then printer apps.
Use what is built in
iPhones print to compatible printers through AirPrint, and many Android phones have a built-in print service. Connect to the same Wi-Fi as the printer, open the file and choose Print in the share or menu options.
Add the printer’s app
If your phone does not see the printer, install the maker’s app or print plug-in. It often adds scanning, ink levels and setup help as well.
Convert stubborn files to PDF
Web pages and some apps print oddly. Save or share them as PDF first, check the layout and print that. To tidy PDFs before printing, compare PDF apps.
Close the loop with a scan
Printed a form to sign by hand? Scan it back with the phone; see how to scan documents with your phone, or skip paper with how to sign a document on your phone. Compare apps in printer apps.
| Situation | What you do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi printer | same network, tap Print | built into the phone |
| Printer not found | install the maker’s app | adds missing support |
| Odd file or app | save or share as PDF first | prints reliably |
| No printer at home | send to a print shop or library | print on the go |
| Paper back again | scan it with the phone | digital copy kept |
