How to monitor a solar inverter from your phone
The panels are on the roof and the battery is in the hall. The only way to know whether they are doing their job is a small box with blinking lights. A monitoring app turns that box into a screen you can read from anywhere.
A setup routine, then inverter monitoring apps. Watching is safe; changing battery, grid or charging settings is not a guess. Ask the installer or the inverter maker before you change them, and never open the inverter yourself.
Find the app for your model
Inverter makers and data-logger makers each have their own apps, and the label on the logger usually names it. Compare them in inverter apps.
Learn to read the screen
Monitoring apps usually show four flows: what the panels produce, what the battery stores, what comes from or goes to the grid, and what the home draws. Check it at different times of day to learn your normal pattern.
Set alerts
Turn on notifications for faults and for the logger going offline, so you hear about a problem the same day. For outage schedules and alerts, see power outage apps.
Plan around outages
Knowing your battery level helps you decide what to run when the grid goes down. See how to prepare for a power outage and compare power station apps for portable backups.
| Step | What you do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Right app | for your inverter brand | it talks to your logger |
| 2. Connect | logger to home Wi-Fi | data reaches the app |
| 3. Read the flow | solar, battery, grid, home | where power goes |
| 4. Alerts | faults and offline | know before it matters |
| 5. Settings | through your installer | safe and in warranty |
Frequently asked questions
Which app works with my solar inverter?
The one from your inverter or data-logger maker. The logger label or the manual names it.
Why does my inverter app show no data?
Often the logger lost its Wi-Fi connection. Reconnect it to your home network following the maker’s steps.
Can I change inverter settings in the app?
Some apps allow it, but ask your installer first. Wrong settings can affect the battery and the warranty.
