Ukrainian audiobook apps
Abuk has the most audiobooks in Ukrainian: over 900 audiobooks and 5,000 e-books in Ukrainian, with narrators that include the writers Serhiy Zhadan and Serhiy Prytula. Yakaboo, a Ukrainian book platform, puts e-books and audiobooks next to print books with delivery. Apple Books sells audiobooks with no subscription. Audible is the pick for listening in English.
How we picked: the app has to play audiobooks, not just e-books, work offline and either carry books in Ukrainian or be a Ukrainian service. We checked each app’s own description in the UA App Store and left Russian services out.
The most audiobooks in Ukrainian
Abuk is a Ukrainian app for audiobooks, e-books and podcasts. Books are read by professional narrators and by writers themselves, including Serhiy Zhadan, Pavlo Vyshebaba, Serhiy Prytula and Yevheniia Kuznietsova. You can set the speed from 0.1x to 2x, use a sleep timer, bookmarks and CarPlay, and gift a book to a friend. Download an audiobook first to listen offline. Some books are sold one by one, and the abuk+ subscription unlocks the titles marked with it.
Big catalog and print delivery
Yakaboo calls itself the largest Ukrainian book platform: its app has over 74,000 e-books and audiobooks and over 700,000 print books you can order with delivery. You can download books to read offline, save quotes and bookmarks, and a subscription opens the catalog.
No subscription, on iPhone
Apple Books sells books and audiobooks one at a time with no subscription and lets you preview any audiobook. Audiobooks play in CarPlay and on Apple Watch, and Family Sharing shares them with up to five family members. What is available depends on your country.
Listening in English
Audible has over 900,000 audiobooks and podcasts, including its own Audible Originals, with a trial for new members. It has no Ukrainian interface, so it suits people who listen in English.
Which one to choose
