How to free up phone storage on Android and iPhone
“Storage almost full” usually comes from four places: photos and videos, messenger caches, apps you forgot about, and downloads. Before you install a cleaner, look at what actually takes the space, then go through it in order from the biggest item to the smallest.
Steps that work on Android and iPhone, then cleaner apps, with a section for storage cleaner apps rising by visits on the Censuus ranking. Menu names differ between phone makers and system versions.

Start with what takes the space
On Android open Settings → Storage; on iPhone open Settings → General → iPhone Storage. Both show which categories and apps take the most room. On iPhone the same screen offers to offload apps you rarely use: the app is removed but its documents and data stay.
Photos and videos first
Duplicates, near-identical shots, screenshots and long videos are the quickest win. After deleting, empty the Recently Deleted album, otherwise the space comes back only later. A step-by-step guide is in how to clean up your photo library, and apps are compared in photo cleaner apps.
Messengers, downloads and files
Messengers keep every photo, video and voice message you received. Telegram, Viber and WhatsApp each have a storage section in settings where you can clear cached media or limit auto-download. Then go through Downloads with a file manager; see file manager apps for Android.

| 4. Clear messenger caches | in Telegram, Viber or WhatsApp storage settings | cached media piles up quietly |
| 5. Move what you keep | to cloud storage or a computer | space without losing anything |
Frequently asked questions
How do I free up space on my phone?
Check what takes the most space in settings, clear photos and videos, remove apps you do not use, clear messenger caches and downloads, then move what you keep to the cloud or a computer.
Why is my phone storage still full after deleting photos?
Deleted photos stay in the Recently Deleted album for a while. Empty it to free the space now.
Do I need a cleaner app?
Not always. System settings show what takes space. A cleaner app helps most with finding duplicates, similar shots and large videos in a big photo library.
