How to set up Will U Be There, and answers to common questions
A quick start guide plus straight answers, all based on the app's own listing.
The setup steps and answers below follow the app's own onboarding and listing, checked on 2026-09-22. Nothing here requires payment; the app is fully free.
Step 1 — Install
Install Will U Be There from the App Store; it needs an iPhone on iOS 16.6 or newer. It’s free, with no ads and nothing to buy.
Step 2 — Sign in
Sign in with Apple, Google, or a six-digit email code — no password to create or leak.
Step 3 — Set your home city and add a trip
Set your home city, then add a trip: just a city and two dates. The app never asks for your live location.
Step 4 — Add friends or a group
Add friends by username or share link, or start a group and drop the link in a chat — groups skip friend requests, up to 200 people, and you pick which groups each trip matches against.
Step 5 — Match, discover, and host
Get a push when a friend’s trip lands near yours and the dates touch; browse local events inside your dates and star or RSVP to them; and optionally host your own event at a real address, collecting Going/Maybe answers.

Frequently asked questions
Does the app share my live location?
No — it never accesses your GPS. It works only from the cities and dates you enter.
What can a friend see?
Only the overlap — the matching city and dates. The rest of your trip list stays private; nobody sees your full itinerary.
Is it really free?
Yes — no ads, no ad SDK, and nothing to buy.
How big can a group be?
Up to 200 people, and you choose which groups each trip is allowed to match against.
What if I just miss a friend?
Near misses are flagged, so you can shift a day if you want to.
How do I sign in?
With Apple, Google, or a six-digit code by email — no password.
What platforms and languages?
iPhone, iOS 16.6 or newer, in seventeen languages. No Android or web version is listed.
Can I delete my account?
Yes — from inside the app.
