Slovo review: a reading journal that captures not just what you read, but how it landed

Most reading apps count books. Slovo (“Book Journal & Tracker”) is built around a different idea: capture your reflections, quotes, and impressions alongside the tracking, so your bookshelf becomes a journal you can revisit. It handles the usual progress and to-read lists, then adds a layer of personal notes and reading insights on top. It's a young app, still lightly reviewed, so we describe it by what it does rather than a long track record.

Everything here comes from the live App Store listing, checked on 2026-09-23. We describe Slovo's journaling and tracking features and don't quote a rating or a price, both of which change over time. Censuus ranks apps by the traffic they draw and by sponsorship, so paying also raises placement — it does not invent usage.

A journal, not just a tracker

Slovo’s core is reflection. As you read, you capture quotes, key insights, and notes on what resonated — turning each book into an entry you can come back to. Instead of a bare “finished” checkmark, you keep a record of why a book mattered to you. If you’ve ever finished a book and forgotten what you took from it, that’s the gap Slovo aims at.

Track your reading state

The tracking basics are here: mark books as finished, in progress, or on your to-read list, and follow your progress through each. Rate and review your books so you can revisit your own impressions later. It’s a straightforward way to keep your reading organised without a spreadsheet.

Goals and badges

You can set reading goals and collect badges that mark your milestones — a light layer of motivation for people who like a target to read toward. It’s optional flavour on top of the journaling, not the main event.

Patterns and insights

Slovo surfaces patterns in your reading habits — a way to understand what and how you read over time. On the free tier you get the core journaling and tracking; a Premium subscription adds personalised insights, unlimited journaling, and more detailed analytics. The listing doesn’t name a price, so we don’t quote one — check the current terms in the app before subscribing.

A note on “reflection”

Slovo’s reflections are about your reading — what a book made you think, the lines you want to keep. It’s a books journal, not a wellbeing or mood app; treat it as a place to think about what you read, nothing more clinical than that.

Who it fits

Slovo suits readers who want to remember and reflect, not just log — people who annotate, keep favourite quotes, and like revisiting their impressions. If you only want a bare shelf-and-count tracker or a big social community around books, a different app fits better; if the journaling and reflection are the point, this is built for exactly that.

Verdict

A thoughtful, focused reading journal that puts reflection first and tracking second. It’s early — launched recently and lightly reviewed — so weigh it as a promising young app rather than a proven staple. But the core idea is clear and well-executed on paper: capture what a book meant to you, not just that you read it. For reflective readers on iPhone, it’s worth a try, free to start.
